Dr. Linda Wilmshurst

Dr. Linda Wilmshurst (Florida Psychology License PY#9098; School Psychologist License #SS 684) is a psychologist who has also met requirements for Specialty Board Certification in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Dr. Wilmshurst was a Registered Psychologist in the Province of Ontario in 1991 and has held licenses in clinical and/ or school psychology in Texas, North Carolina and Florida. Linda received her M.A. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Windsor, Windsor Ontario, and received her Doctorate in Applied Psychology (Educational and School Psychology) from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Wilmshurst has several years experience working in private practice and mental health facilities, residential treatment centers, residential schools for the learning disabled and has worked as a school psychologist internationally, both in Canada and the United States. She has published research studies on treatment programs for behavioral disordered youth, as well as, resilience in college students with ADHD. She has taught undergraduate and graduate students in universities, internationally, and has authored and co-authored several books and chapters, including: Child and Adolescent Psychopathology: A Casebook; Abnormal Child Psychology; Essentials of Child and Adolescent Psychopathology; Clinical and Educational Child Psychology; and The Complete Guide to Special Education (co-authored with Dr. Alan Brue).

Areas of focus include:
  • Assessment: Comprehensive psychological evaluations of children adolescents and adults for purposes of diagnosis and to inform decision-making regarding intervention and treatment planning. Primary areas of assessment, include: ADHD, and the entire spectrum of intellectual assessments from specific learning disabilities, intellectual and developmental disabilities (autism spectrum disorder), to assessment of gifted students. Social and emotional evaluations, include assessment of: anxiety and mood disorders (depression and bipolar), issues related to social skills and self esteem, behavior problems and family issues.
  • Intervention and Treatment: Dr. Wilmshurst's approach to intervention and treatment favors the use of cognitive behavioral and applied behavioral methods to treat problems in areas of: executive functioning (ADHD), anxiety and depression, behavioral management, as well as, the development of learning-based interventions for all ranges of academic issues and concerns.
